On May 1st The Colony — of all places — will welcome arguably the most ambitious music venue opening in North Texas. Lava Cantina, a 28,000-square-foot restaurant and live music depot, will become the brightest star in the promising Grandscape development. This makes The Colony a new concert destination — and it’ll happen with the help of longtime Coach Joe’s Hat Tricks owner Tony Avezzano. The hiring of Tony Avezzano to handle talent booking is a well-advised move. Avezzano recently sold Hat Tricks, where he oversaw a rather eclectic concert schedule in Lewisville for the past decade, in order to move on to bigger things. Not only does Avezzano have a successful track record when it comes to the crowded live music market, but he knows full well what it takes to pack a room for a wide range of shows at a venue that’s off the beaten, Dallas-proper path.
Frisco, Plano, The Colony, Allen and McKinney has had a need for a concert venue for a very long time! To have an 28,000 square foot venue like Lava Cantina that brings high quality Mexican and Creole Fusion and Live Rock & Roll in a 1,800 seat venue right down the street will be absolutely amazing! As of right now we suburbanites, have had to drive to Downtown Dallas or Grand Prairie for an indoor concert and now it will be such a convenience only 10 minutes away.
For the venue’s first big-name show on May 4, the Los Lonely Boys will perform a “Pre-Cinco de Mayo” show. The Grammy-winning San Angelo-based band of brothers have stayed busy since hitting it big over a decade ago with the jangly, groovy smash hit “Heaven.” Austin Latin rock band Vallejo will join in for that inaugural concert under Lava Cantina’s retractable roof.
